Vodafone Qatar has deployed commercial VoLTE services, allowing subscribers to make high definition (HD+) calls over its network.
In addition, the services allow customers to use high speed 4G internet at the same time as IP voice. The operator has stated that VoLTE users will experience better call quality than 3G users, as well as faster call connection times.
Vodafone Qatar’s COO Diego Camberos said: ‘There could not be a better time to introduce VoLTE … We are all social distancing responsibly and having to rely on technology to multitask and keep our busy lives on track – reaching out to friends and colleagues, even while we shop, order food or send messages. VoLTE is a major step towards enhancing customers’ calling experience, with the ability to use voice and data at the same time, HD+ quality voice calls, and faster call set-up.’”
According to Telegeography, Vodafone Qatar completed trials and integration of VoLTE and ViLTE (video over LTE) technology around 2016/2017, but took a further three years before making the service commercially available.
Users with compatible handsets can make ViLTE calls, while Vodafone Qatar has stated that it is aiming to make the services available on an “even wider” range of devices via partnerships with device makers.
