Fon and Magyar Telekom to Launch Free Wi-Fi Service in Hungary

Global Wi-Fi network Fon and Hungary’s Magyar Telekom are partnering to provide Telekom subscribers with reliable, safe Wi-Fi access across the country.

This exclusive new partnership will provide a quality and secure Wi-Fi internet connection for users on the go. Eligible Telekom customers will be able to get connected outside of their homes, without any data limitation or excess charge, in nearly 2000 localities across Hungary.

Additionally, these customers will have access to millions of hotspots in 20 countries around the world including the UK, Spain, Brazil, Japan, France, Australia, and Germany. At the same time, international Fon members will also be able to connect to all Fon-enabled hotspots in Hungary.

The network is being created using Wi-Fi sharing technology from Fon. It works by customers sharing a small portion of their home internet bandwidth in exchange for using their own home broadband allowance at hotspots across the nation and overseas. Magyar Telekom will be the fifth market to enter the Fon-Telekom family, with current partnerships in Germany, Greece, Romania, and Croatia.

András Gyenes, Magyar Telekom's Chief Commercial Officer residential services said: “With its new Wi-Fi Fon service, Magyar Telekom provides an all-round internet experience. Thanks to our fixed line, mobile, and WiFi network, our customers from now on will be able to access the internet everywhere, in all situations.”

The Wi-Fi Fon service is available on Wi-Fi enabled smartphones, tablets, and computers with the help of a Wi-Fi Fon application that can be downloaded free of charge. With one user name, up to three devices can connect to the Wi-Fi network.
