Etisalat, Huawei sign global MoU

Etisalat and Huawei have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to support Etisalat's expansion in the Middle East and Africa.

Huawei's aim is more competitive telecommunications equipment and services, notably by supplying and installing telecom equipment and networks.

At the end of 2003 Etisalat launched commercial UMTS services with Huawei's end-to-end solution, and became the first operator to provide 3G services in the Middle East. This April, Etisalat announced it had acquired a 50% stake in the West African mobile operator Atlantique Telecom, which in turn owns majority shareholdings in mobile operators in Benin, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Niger, Togo and Cote D'Ivoire.
