Wavion, a company which claims it is “transforming the metro and rural wi-fi market” with a new category of wi-fi base station, along with BHU, Wavion’s distributor in China, have announced the selection of Wavion’s Wi-Fi base stations by a leading carrier for the broadband access coverage of 1,000 villages in West China. The broadband access is to be provided by a mix of Wavion’s 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz base stations and will provide voice and data services to SMEs and residential customers in these villages.
The award was facilitated by BHU, whose General Manager of its Wireless Division, Yao Yongxin, said, "This project is a major breakthrough into the Chinese market...After a careful evaluation of all the competing solutions, we have selected Wavion’s solution because of its...beam-forming technology which enables a carrier-class quality at a cost-effective price."
Wavion’s WBS-2400 and WBS-5800 spatially adaptive beam-forming base stations are designed to “provide extended range, higher throughput, and much better NLOS coverage.” As a result, unlike conventional access points, it does not require “costly high towers” and can be installed on rooftops and still provide extended coverage with indoor penetration. Its architecture is built around two types of base stations – omni-directional and sector.
“Wavion is very proud to add a leading Chinese carrier to its list of national carrier customers,” said Eran Kaplan, Wavion's EVP Sales and Marketing. “This is a major victory for Wavion’s technology and it demonstrates Wavion’s unique value proposition to large telecommunications operators in terms of the Quality of Service (QoS) and the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) provided.”
In March, 2009, BHU and Wavion became united into strategic partners, and BHU will distribute Wavion products exclusively in the China market.
