Iraq’s Asiacell works with Ericsson on LTE upgrade

Iraqi operator Asiacell has announced that it is extending its strategic partnership with Ericsson to enhance and improve its LTE services in the country.

The partners say that the ongoing project will see Ericsson modernise and expand Asiacell’s LTE network and supply Asiacell with the latest radio access network (RAN) equipment from the Ericsson Radio System (ERS) of hardware, software and related services used to build modular and scalable RANs.

Ericsson says that the modernisation and expansion of Asiacell’s LTE network will increase the network’s capacity to meet rising demand for mobile broadband connectivity and further realize Asiacell’s market plans in the region. Ericsson adds that its software and the latest RAN hardware will improve Asiacell’s user experience and optimize spectrum efficiency.

The company adds that its ERS hardware supports multi-technology and multi-band operations that will cater to the current and future needs of Asiacell.

Ericsson clearly sees the need for this project as a pressing one, pointing out that, as digital transformation progresses across the country, with digital banking, data-driven financial systems, e-learning and e-government services growing in popularity, so the need for fast and reliable connectivity provided by LTE grows. And, it adds, emerging digital technologies that rely on 5G such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) will play a vital role in the near future.

Ericsson says it has a long-standing partnership with Asiacell spanning nearly a decade and has constantly collaborated in elevating communications in the region including network design and optimization.
