The Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority (BICMA) is considering boosting mobile broadband capacity by freeing up the 2300MHz spectrum band for 4G.
An a newly published consultation paper, the regulator notes that many other markets use this specific band for 4G, and that many devices already widely available in Bhutan are compatible with the band.
BICMA has proposed using an 80MHz holding in the 2300MHz band for TD-LTE services, although an additional 10MHz buffer will be required either side of the allocation (between 2300MHz-2310MHz and 2390MHz-2400MHz, according to TeleGeography) to reduce interference from Bluetooth, radio and Wi-Fi.
