MTN Group successfully argued against a massive GHS8.2 billion (US$665 billion) tax bill from the Ghana government, which withdrew the bill after accusing the operator of under-declaring revenue for four years.
The operator was slapped with a massive bill by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) last month (January 13) as the company was accused of under-declaring its revenue, and subsequently being charged lower tax.
The GRA granted MTN 21 days to engage with the authority and explain its revenues between 2014-2018. MTN was accused of under-declaring revenue by 30%.
In a statement, the operator said the GRA had “fully withdrawn the assessment” of its finances and said it “maintains its planned investment and developmental initiatives over the medium-term to drive digital and financial inclusion” in Ghana.
